Outer Banks Season 4

The Pogues will be back in Outer Banks season 4. The third season recently dropped, but Netflix has already announced that the teen drama will return with more treasure-hunting adventures and romance.

Outer Banks Season 4

The teens become embroiled in a far-reaching conspiracy to find the hoard of gold, with the principal antagonist being Sarah's own dad, Ward (Charles Esten). Other potential treasures are dangled in front of the various hunters, and Outer Banks season 4 may feature the biggest one of them all.

As far as a potential release date for Outer Banks season 4, we can speculate based on the show's history. The series debuted in April 2020, with season 2 following just 15 months later in July 2021.

We'll get a better sense of season 4's arrival when production begins, since around a year elapses between the start of filming and the premiere. With no word of filming happening anytime soon, it likely won't begin until late spring or summer of this year.

Two major cast members who may not be back include Charles Esten as Ward Cameron (Sarah's father) and Charles Halford as Big John (John B's father). Both dads died in the season 3 finale. However, the show has faked deaths before, so ... who knows!

In the season 3 finale, the Pogues head off to South American to look for the legendary treasure of El Dorado and rescue John B's dad, Big John. Of course, Sarah's father Ward is also on the scene, though the Pogues manage to get to the location first.

Outer Banks season 4 will seemingly focus on this new quest for riches, while balancing the adventure with the different romances. John B and Sarah are back together and going strong, while Kiara and JJ have finally hooked up after years of friendship. Pope and Cleo are newly dating.

Based on season 3, John B and Sarah will continue to face ups and downs in their romance. Meanwhile, Kiara and JJ address their mutual feelings after years of friendship. Pope, for his part, finds himself growing closer to Cleo after they return to North Carolina.

In the season 3 finale, Kiara and JJ officially started their journey as a couple. Pope and Cleo started dating after ending their No Love pact. Meanwhile, John B and Sarah worked out their issues after she cheated with Topper.

The long wait for another season of Outer Banks has begun, and there are plenty of unanswered questions left hanging by the Season 3 finale. Here are some that I'll be thinking about until Season 4 finally comes...

"Seeing Poguelandia come to life was nothing short of spectacular," series creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke said in a statement. "The Pogues are enjoying an adventure of a lifetime, and we now get to map out more twists and turns as the joyride continues into season four of Outer Banks."

Season three saw our Pogues abandon the titular Outer Banks of North Carolina in favor of a search for the lost city of El Dorado in International waters. While they faced new villains and suffered some big losses, the season finale pretty much set up season four to dive into their next mystery: finding the missing ship of Blackbeard.

Season three ends with a new mission for the Pogues: the hunt for Blackbeard's Royal Merchant shipwreck. According to history books, the pirate spent much of his time in North Carolina, so season four could easily see the show go back to home territory in order to find his final resting place.

Upon discovering the lost city of El Dorado, John B. and his friends are no longer on the run and have even been celebrated, as seen in the time jump. This means season four won't necessarily be about evading capture, as it has been so far.

John B. and Sarah, Cleo and Pope, and JJ and Kie have all coupled up by the end of season three. So, who's next? According to the cast, they actually want to see Rafe and Barry (Nicholas Cirillo) get together.

Both Ward (Charles Esten) and Big John (Charles Halford) met their ends in season three, meaning they will more than likely not be a part of season four. Although, the show has faked a death in the past...

True to form, series creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke promised "more twists and turns as the joyride continues" into season four at the Poguelandia fan event.

While much of Outer Banks season 3 feels like it should be a grand finale, given the discovery at the end, it also does have a very clear teaser for the next treasure hunt, and it actually makes a little more sense than what I initially figured.

Season 3, which premiered on Netflix on February 23, had a season finale that was nearly the length of a feature film. There were reunions, new love connections, betrayals of all kinds, and lots of high-stakes action. (To name a few: arson, a train heist, a plane crash, jungle shootouts, a cave explosion after finding the Lost City of El Dorado. You know, the usual.) A shocking time jump and a hint at the gang's next treasure hunt has set the stage for an even bigger fourth season.

Just days before the premiere of season 3, Netflix announced that Outer Banks received an early renewal for season 4. Netflix shared the news at the special interactive Poguelandia event in Huntington Beach, California on February 18, along with some help from the cast.

The series also stars Cullen Moss (as Sheriff Shoupe), Julia Antonelli (Wheezie Cameron), Caroline Arapoglou (Rose Cameron), and E. Roger Mitchell (Heyward, Pope's dad). Two of the biggest bombshells from season 3 include the deaths of Sarah's father Ward Cameron (played by Charles Esten) and John B's father Big John (Charles Halford). While Ward and Big John may not appear in new scenes, there's definitely still a chance they'll appear in season 4 through the form of flashbacks.

As of right now, Netflix has not revealed the release date for Outer Banks season 4. Looking back at the show's history, the release dates are a bit unpredictable: there was only about a year in between season 1 and season 2, but almost two full years in between season 2 and season 3. The release date will ultimately depend on the scale of season 4 and the main cast's schedules. Series leads Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline in particular are making big waves in Hollywood, with Madelyn starring in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery this past fall and Chase gearing up for the release of at least 3 feature-length films, all in which he has top billing. However, it's possible that with such early renewal news that Outer Banks season 4 could arrive well within 2024.

In a joint statement, co-creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke said: "Seeing Poguelandia come to life was nothing short of spectacular. The Pogues are enjoying an adventure of a lifetime and we now get to map out more twists and turns as the joyride continues into season 4 of Outer Banks.

There are twists and turns aplenty before a dramatic finale sets up a new mission for the Pogues in season 4: finding the missing ship of Blackbeard. So, without further ado, read on for everything you need to know about season 4 of Outer Banks on Netflix.

Previous seasons have had varying release dates throughout the early half of the year, so we'll just have to wait and see. But it's a promising sign that the season 4 renewal news has come so early ahead of the release of season 3. Could we be looking at an imminent release of the fourth season? Here's to hoping!

The Outer Banks co-creators recently said they're no longer adhering to their original plan of having the series run for only four or five seasons, even joking that a potential 17th season could take place in Mars.

Outer Banks season 3 very much dealt with the fact that John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, JJ, and Cleo found themselves caught up once again in a race for the treasure, quite literally running for their lives.

Season 3 also dealt with the surprise admission that Big John, John B's father, has been alive all this time after we were led to believe he was dead in the first two seasons. We can only assume that his master plan with his son continues to unfold in season 4.

Outer Banks creator and showrunner Jonas Pate previously revealed in an April 2020 interview with Entertainment Weekly that he sees the show going on for four or five seasons but now, the show's co-creators have said that they're doing away with that plan.

Jonas Pate also mused: "In season 17, we'll be on Mars" and when compared to Fast & Furious' similar space-themed plotline, Shannon Burke agrees, saying: "We're not opposed. We do try to keep it grounded to some extent. It's that give and take, because sometimes when it gets too big it's not as fun anymore."

So, as well as tackling the Bahamas and El Dorado, our group of fearless teens could now be taking on outer space, it seems. While everything's up in the air for now, we do know that judging from the online reaction to the season 4 news, fans are continually in awe of this series.
